AmeriCorps Stewardship and Community Conservation Coordinator

The mission of the Coastal Land Trust is to enrich our state through conservation of natural areas and working landscapes, education, and the promotion of good land stewardship of the coastal communities.

This 2023-2024 AmeriCorps position will have a start date (for new full-time 11 month members) of September 5th, 2023 (or soon thereafter), and an end date of July 31st 2024 (or 11 months after start date).

For the 2023-2024 service year, Resilience Corps NC offers a living stipend that will range from $25,500 to $30,000 for 11 months (this is taxable and the final amount is dependent on federal funding granted by AmeriCorps in July, and candidates/applicants will be notified of that amount), health insurance reimbursement for premiums, childcare assistance, and professional development opportunities (some examples are three AmeriCorps cohort trainings that cover project management to strengths assessments, individual self-directed trainings, enrollment in NC Environmental Education Certificate Program, and conferences in conjunction with VolunteerNC). Members are also eligible to sign up for SNAP benefits. Participants who complete the program will receive a Segal Education Award of $6,895 (taxable in the year used, not the year awarded) from the National Service Trust.

Purpose of the Position

Stewardship and Community Conservation Coordinator: This position will assist the Stewardship Department with monitoring, land management, landowner outreach. This position also participates and supports community conservation projects and partnerships with a focus on connecting people to land.


Position Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct monitoring activities on conservation properties
  • Conduct and support conservation landowner outreach
  • Organize and advise conservation management activities and habitat restoration
  • Expand the trail system to preserve with the use of volunteers
  • Recruit, manage, and retain volunteers for trail maintenance and stewardship activities
  • Conduct a variety of fieldwork and office responsibilities while maintaining a good sense of humor

Qualifications 

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree preferably in education or botany, ecology, biology, environmental science or natural resources management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer skills
  • Good physical condition, including ability to work in the field in varying field conditions as required by site inspections, trail work, field trips and other assignments
  • Driver’s license
  • Must pass background check.

Essential Functions / Physical Demands

Willingness and ability to work outside in hot climate in all seasons and exposure to insects, animals, and other conditions incident to field work in forests, fields, and wetlands. Comfortable working with groups of children.

Must be in physical condition necessary for independent deep woods field work.

Preferred Schedule

Position will require some long days and irregular business hours when in the field as well as some weekends. Office time is regular business hours, and functions on a hybrid schedule
